Storage. Storage! Storage?

Storage.  It isn't one of the more exciting aspects of life.  But it's like drinking water.  A necessary evil.

Without storage, our lives would collapse.  Like what happened to the dinosaurs.  Or something.

Lately, I've been thinking lots about storage.  Because my shelves of supplies has been threatening to avalanche.  And I don't have one of those dogs that carry liquor around in a barrel on their necks, so I have to be careful.

Yes, believe it or not, I don't have a dog that carries liquor around on its neck.

I've kept all of my Idea-ology and other random metal bits in their original packaging.  For the longest time, I had a perverse fantasy that I would buy pegboard and hooks and install a wall so that I could pretend that I live in my own store.

Why?  I don't know.  Growing up, I wanted to grow up to live in a hotel room.  I don't have reasons for why.

I finally decided that I wouldn't ever build the 'store' in my mind.  I began thinking about storage options- and today,  Joann had their plastic storage on sale for 60% off.  (I also had an idea that I would drive to my storage unit and get my old metal toolbox out and load everything into it- but like lots of money-saving ideas, it flew out the window.)

I bought this:

It was 7.49.

That's pretty cheap.

I went home and pulled all my bits 'n pieces out- and piled them on the table.

That pile is thicker than it appears.  I buy lots of stuff.  It's also lots of packaging.  I usually try to save the packaging- not because I worry about the environment, but because - hello?  Free crafting material.  Face it- when I'm dead, what's the environment gonna do for me?  (Just jokes, ladies and gentlemen, I'm not advocating wastefulness.  I'm funny, dammit.)

So what does my newly filled box of fun look like?

I cut strips from the packaging (RECYCLING, RIGHT?!) and inserted the strips (with the product name on it- in case I forget what a 'hinge clip' or 'hitch post' looks like) into the edge of the slots where the dividers go...

Classy, huh?

Awww, thank you!

Well, I've got things to not do and nobody to see- so see ya.

  2. Perfect, I often save the names too. Don't trust my memory! But I have not done this yet, I don't know why I think I can see them better in the package. What's wrong with me?

    1. Hi! I'm sure you can find something similar- I swear, it's just a tool box with a different label on it- I was going to go to the hardware store and get something, but then found this in the back of the store with all the sewing room storage.

And thanks for clearing my conscience about the sticker! lol

    2. You are correct - as a Canadian living in Ontario, those little fishing tackle boxes come in handy for all sorts of storage needs. They can be bought in any Dollarama, Walmart or Canadian Tire store so no need for a Joanns.
Kory your sense of humour is refreshing. (Yes, humour is spelled with a "u" in Canada, eh!)

  5. It's like...an ORGY of Tim Holtz stuff. I can totally see you filming a porno with all of this stuff in it!

Okay, even if this makes it past your spam filters, there's gonna be an interwebs restraining order on me, isn't there? I'm going away now.

  8. Thanks Kory....I too keep all my TH bits & bobs still in packaging. You just gave me the nerve to take them out & sort into my tackle box. I have no idea why I've been afraid to do that but I am. Tomorrow it's all going away & I'll gain a huge amount space back! Thanks for the inspiration & for the laugh as usual!

    1. Thanks for laughing!

Good luck with grabbing your space back! My newly reclaimed space was quickly filled up when the rest of my stuff took a breath and expanded. :(

  9. I was laughing at your comments. The dinosaurs became extinct because of lack of storeage, you fear avalanches of supplies and dont have a rescue dog. With a barrel of liquor around his neck. You wanted to live in a store surrounded by peg boards full of supplies around you. Your solution was very good and especially the labelling. Congratulations on time well spent. When you need those items you wont have to search, you can see them at a glance.

  10. You mean you're supposed to open TH packaging and USE the contents???!!! I thought they were for stroking and drooling over.

Funny funny post, Kory :o) Dinosaurs died out cos of a lack of storage hahahahahahaha!!

    Have a great day.

ps are you SURE you're supposed to open that TH packaging?!

  11. Disgustingly organised!!!! You put me to shame. Your box of trinkets is fantastic. I'd just want to keep it as it is and not touch the treasures within though. And when I was young, I wanted to own and live in a book store, so your idea of living in a shop isn't that strange (well not to me haha) Pxx

  12. LOL! You just gave me a fantastic idea!!! Not the storage idea, I love all kinds of storage stuff ... but teaching my dogs to carry liquor! Our party guests will surely appreciate them coming by to be petted if they are also there to refill drinks!! :) Genius, Kory!!
